I received an email from iTunes today featuring a new offer between Radiohead and iTunes to remix a song from Radiohead’s latest album, In Rainbows.

The download includes 5 stem tracks from the song. People are invited to use the tracks to make a new derivative work and upload it to http://www.radioheadremix.com for voting.

While this is not a new idea, it’s the first time I’ve seen something like this promoted through mainstream channels. The same goes for their “pay whatever you want” sale of their album last year. With so much talk about the demise of the record industry, it’s interesting to see some new ideas being tossed around.
